DESCRIPTION

The home is a refurbishment of a 40-year-old apartment in the urban Bangsar area of Kuala Lumpur, belonging to celebrity actor Henry Golding of Crazy, Rich Asian fame. Henry’s brief calls for a home which is chic, with soul and character…not another conventional home. The home should have areas to entertain and display spaces for his very own photography turned artwork from his many travels. Spatially, there were many challenges we had to address such as the narrow entryway, low ceilings, noise from the elevated MRT train nearby, lack of sunlight, large beams, the overall cluttered and narrow living area and spaces which are no longer relevant to the modern lifestyle. Completely gutting the shell we designed an open floor plan which integrates the kitchen, living, dining and crafted out unique cozy nooks for Henry and friends to chill over weekends. Ceilings are stripped to reveal original concrete slabs and beams to tell a story of the past. A rich palette of contrasting textures like bronze and blue hues, a specially installed high-polished white concrete floor combined with warmer timber floors, raw concrete, hexagonal ceramic tiles sourced from Thailand and oak timbers interplay with light selections and a hint of graphical play to complete the look
